WHF Visitors Experience the 158th Winnebago Homecoming Celebration

Winnebago, NE – The Winnebago Health Foundation (WHF) had the pleasure of hosting a memorable day for visitors during the 158th Winnebago Homecoming Celebration on July 27th, 2024. Guests were welcomed to the Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS) Main Campus, where they were immersed in the rich history and culture of the Winnebago Tribe and the vital work being done by WCHS and WHF.

The day began with an introduction to WCHS and WHF, followed by a captivating video presentation that provided an overview of their missions and initiatives. Visitors were then given an exclusive tour of the WCHS facility by CEO David Edwards, who highlighted the state-of-the-art healthcare services available to the Winnebago community and beyond.

Danelle Smith, Chair of the Winnebago Health Foundation and Partner at Big Fire Law & Policy Group, provided an in-depth overview of the Winnebago Homecoming Pow Wow, sharing the significance of this annual celebration in honoring the Winnebago Tribe’s heritage and traditions.

Guests enjoyed a traditional lunch featuring corn soup, fry bread, and wild rice salad, allowing them to experience the culinary heritage of the Winnebago people. Following the meal, the group caravaned to the Veterans Memorial Park Pow Wow Grounds, where they were treated to prime viewing seats for the spectacular Grand Entry—a highlight of the Pow Wow.

The event offered a unique opportunity for regional leaders and influence-shapers to connect with the Winnebago Tribe and learn about the impactful work of WCHS and WHF. The foundation is committed to fostering partnerships that will continue to uplift the health and well-being of the Winnebago community.

“We have a great story to tell, and we’re delighted we were able to share it with those who took the time to visit,” said David Edwards. “Pinagigi (Thank You!) to all who attended and made this day unforgettable.”
